Final Descent (Poem)
Final Descent
We knew this day was coming,
When you blossomed just this Spring.
Through sunny days and summer nights…
Your heart just couldn’t sing.
We watched your branch hold you tight,
When we knew you wanted to soar…
And then whispered in the fall - which opened up your final door.
So, how does a leaf know when it’s time to fly?
Is it pushed by the wind - does it even ask why?
It’s odd, isn’t it?
How we’ll never know when it’s time -
Yet the beauty of the fall still surprises us
- magnificently -
each time.
